BINP codes for electromagnetic calculations

Several computer codes developed at the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics (Novosibirsk) are available at CERN for mode spectra, impedance and beam dynamics calculations. The UNIX executables, running on CERNSP and including an X-Windows interface developed by Oleg Danilov, can be found in the public directory /afs/cern.ch/eng/lhc/collective/oda. For each program there is a directory with a DOC, an EXE and a TEST subdirectory, containing documentation, executable and test files, respectively. Also batch files named run.bat are provided in each directory to call sequentially the required subprograms. In case of problems with fonts, invoke the executables as shown in the batch file font.bat.

Here is a list of the available programs, with the name of the corresponding subdirectory and links to the relevant documentation:

  1. GEN: Generator of finite element mesh, used by most of the other programs.
  2. SAM: 2D Electrostatics, Linear Magnetostatics and Electron Guns. User's Guide (Compressed PS file, 500 kB).
  3. SAM_ADD: Transverse impedance and power loss calculation for multi-layer vacuum chambers with arbitrary cross section (addition to the code SAM).
  4. SLANS: Calculation of azimuthal-homogeneous modes in axisymetrical cavities and periodic structures (up to 20000 mesh points for the UNIX version). User's Guide (Compressed PS file, 330 kB).
  5. SPECTR: Spectrum calculation with SLANS in frequency band (use with care!).
  6. CLANS: Extension of SLANS for cavities with lossy filling.
  7. ILANS: Resistive wall instability and ohmic losses for multi-layer vacuum chambers with arbitrary cross section taking into account the source current harmonic phase velocity (addition to the code CLANS).
  8. MBI: Multi-bunch Beam Instabilities
  9. MTFVIEW: MetaFile Viewer
  10. ELMA: Integrated complex for electromagnetic calculations, only available on a trial basis for Microsoft Windows. User's Guide (Compressed PS file, 1M).
  11. LASLET: Calculation of coherent and incoherent electrical Laslett coefficients for vacuum chambers with arbitrary cross section (based on the code SAM).
